Last year, when infraStruct began working with Echologics to offer their services and products, we were very excited to be able to help municipalities easily and reliably identify leaks and evaluate the actual condition of their water transmission lines, in a non-intrusive manner. The financial and environmental impact that results from this “best practice” approach is very significant and lined up very well with our stated core values.

Recently, working hand in hand with Echologics, we undertook a small pipe condition assessment project in the small village of Waskesiu, SK located in the Prince Albert National Park. The scope of work including cast-iron pipes ranging in size from 100mm to 200mm, many installed over 3m deep over a total of 2km.

Once the data is analyzed by Echologics sophisticated software and reviewed by their expert team of engineers, our client will know the average remaining wall thickness in sections of approximately 100m. This will allow the client to then prioritize and plan for their replacement based on actual need versus assumed need. As an added bonus, since the equipment needed to conduct this analysis uses the same technology found in the Echologics ST Lead finder, we were also able to immediately identify and pinpoint the location of a few existing leaks. The client can now plan and proceed to repair the leaks and knows exactly where to dig and address a little problem before it becomes a big problem – which usually happens at 3am, in the dead of winter, on a Friday!

Do you have aging infrastructure? Does protecting our natural resources matter to you? Is your municipality losing tonnes of water daily? Is your budget tight and you are unsure what sections of pipe need the most attention? Let us help you with this!
